This course is upper level course designed for senior and graduate students who are interested in learning hand on laboratory techniques in analyzing gene expression patterns using zebrafish as a model. Qualified junior students with a strong interest are also welcome to register. It will introduce you the use of zebrafish as a biological and medical research model, differential gene expression in development and physiological responses, strategies and techniques for gene expression analysis including contemporary microarray analysis, and finally you will be assigned a project to actually clone and characterize one to several zebrafish genes under the guidance of instructors and TAs. Students are expected to present a talk and turn in a report for their accomplishments at the end of semester.
